Western Bulldogs
Having joined the VFL/AFL premiership in 1925 as the Footscray club, the Western Bulldogs have just the one Premiership next to their name which was achieved in 1954 against Melbourne. Although the Bulldogs have struggled somewhat for financial stability in its history, a boost in sponsorship and membership figures have seen the Bulldogs perform very well in the AFL recently, reaching the 2006 semi-finals and the 2008, 2009 and 2010 Preliminary finals, guided by Rodney Eade, who resigned from the club late in the 2011 season.
North Melbourne Kangaroos
Since the club was introduced to the AFL in 1869, the North Melbourne Kangaroos have become well known in Premiership circles for their ‘Shinboner’ spirit and its ability to win them games when their backs are up against the wall. The Kangaroos have won four AFL flags, with success coming in 1975 and 1977, then again in 1996 and 1999. With former Brisbane Lions hardman Brad Scott at the helm, North Melbourne will look to be a force in seasons ahead.
